I have been home a couple days now. Looking back on the last month I learned a lot about cycling while putting in long base miles and testing this year’s racing waters. The drive home was an adventure. My roommate from the Tucson camp, Buck Miller, who rides on a Canadian pro team Jet Fuel, needed a ride to San Antonio. I decided we would stop and see the Grand Canyon and one of my friends from college on the way. Saturday March 1st was our last day in Tucson. We attended the Shootout ride on our last day in town, then quickly packed up, and headed to Flagstaff, AZ. Coming into Flagstaff, we were caught in a whiteout snowstorm but luckily, the Battle Van was able to handle the conditions and maneuver around all the slow moving SUV’s. Sunday, Buck, my college friend Alex Vaivars, and I went to see the snow covered Grand Canyon: what an amazing site. Of course, the Grand Canyon was breathtaking and beautiful in its partial snow covered wonder. Monday Buck and I arrived in San Antonio where Buck would be spending the next month training with his friend James and some teammates. Fat Tuesday I arrived in New Orleans at about 6:30 pm and spent 2 hours exploring the grand party before continuing on my drive home. I was also able to stop in Christiansburg, VA and ride for about 4.5 hours on some of my favorite roads from college. Since arriving home, I have been working on finishing planning of my Belgian trip and readjusting to the cold.
